Mads Borre is an interdisciplinary artist, based in Aarhus, Denmark. Behind his works lie questions about everyday repetitions, queerness, micro- and macrocosmic clashes in relation to the universe, the world and people, language, and the lack of words.
Mads creates context specific installations that unfold as playful and energetic compositions, where attention to material qualities and color are just as important as the conceptualisation of the work. Here drawings and prints are placed among contorted porcelain sculptures and oversized steel jewerely hung on the wall or worn on the body. Mads` investigations into movement and texture, attempts to lessen the distance between the hand working and the sensation felt by the viewer.
Intimacy and spontaneity, trial and error, simplicity of form and depth of reflection or feeling.
The artist performs and writes original performances, sound and music pieces, that can occur within the physical installations or on their own. They contain poetical spoken word and song, accoustic instrumentation and electronical composition. Their textual base can be read as poetry and deals with the ambiguity of understanding and congestion of expression.
The themes that flow throughout Borres artistic practice is tightly bound to lived life as a queer and gender queer person, and seeks both to show queer loneliness, through maelstroms of language and sound, but also create representations of spaces where rest and love can occur, albeit in the chaos and frivolity of everyday life.
He has an MFA in visual arts from the Jutland Art Academy (2019) and Newcastle School of Art (2018).
